Maples and Calder, the Maples Group’s law firm, is delighted to announce that it has been recognised once again as “Offshore Firm of the Year” at the IFLR Asia-Pacific Awards 2025. The firm has also received “Equity Deal of the Year”, “Debt and Equity-Linked Deal of the Year” and “Project Finance Deal of the Year” awards for its involvement in the Black Sesame Hong Kong IPO, JD.com’s USD2 billon convertible bond and Yondr Group data centre’s US$900 million loan facility respectively.
The Black Sesame Hong Kong IPO is the second specialised technology company to be listed under the Chapter 18C listings rule. The Maples Group Hong Kong Corporate team also acted for the first specialised technology company, XtalPi (formerly QuantumPharm) to be listed under this rule. The JD.com senior note offering marked the second largest convertible bond issuance by a US-listed Chinese company. Notably, this transaction has recently been awarded China Business Law Journal Deal of the Year 2024. The Yondr Group data centre is set to become the largest hyperscale data centre campus in Southeast Asia. This transaction marks Yondr Group’s first major debt financing in the region. Notably, for the first time, the company secured an exemption from Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation’s restrictions on borrowing US dollars from offshore lenders.
Commenting on these achievements, Matt Roberts, Partner and Head of the firm’s Asia Corporate practice, said, “We are honoured to receive these accolades which are particularly meaningful as we celebrate our 30th year anniversary in Hong Kong this year. We are grateful for our clients’ trust and support, and our team’s dedication to legal and client service excellence”.
The IFLR Asia-Pacific Awards follow the firm’s recent achievement of securing 15 Deals of the Years awards from China Business Law Journal. These recognitions underscore the robust capabilities of the Asia team, who have advised on a diverse array of transactions and matters across various practice areas involving the laws of Cayman Islands, BVI, and Ireland in Asia.
