Areas of Expertise

Ayana is a partner and head of the Maples and Calder Regulatory & Financial Services team in the Maples Group’s British Virgin Islands office. She comes with over 20 years’ experience in BVI commercial and regulatory law.  She advises corporations, financial institutions, trustees and high net worth clients on regulatory compliance, licensing and AML/CTF, corporate structuring, data protection,  digital assets and the application of BVI regulatory legislation to virtual asset service providers.  She is consistently recognised as a leading partner in the British Virgin Islands Regulatory and Compliance Guide by Legal 500 and as a highly regarded lawyer by IFLR.

Ayana joined the Maples Group in 2026. Previously, Ayana practised across corporate, commercial, funds and regulatory matters in the British Virgin Islands, including serving as inhouse counsel to the BVI Financial Services Commission and its regulatory divisions. From 2013 she was with another international law firm in the BVI, developing a broad practice spanning private wealth, regulatory and commercial advisory for investors and financial services clients.

Ayana chairs the BVI Financial Services Commission Securities and Investment Business Act Advisory Committee. Ayana is also a member of the FSC’s Virtual Asset Services Provider Advisory Committee, the BVI Finance Marketing and Business Development sub-committee and is a steering committee member of BVI Finance Fintech on the Seas annual Summit. She also currently serves as a member of the BVI Government appointed Public Service Commission, is the immediate past Chairman of the National Parks Trust and a past Chairman of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission. She is a notary public in the BVI and an active community contributor, including as the author of Financial Services deMystified and the Territorial Song, “Oh Beautiful Virgin Islands!”
